Sheri L. Shulenberger, M.Ed., LPC, NCC, RPT
Child, Adolescent and Adult Therapy
Through her private practice, Sheri counsels children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling with a variety of issues. She is an experienced therapist who trained at the University of North Texas, which has the world’s largest center for play therapy and one of the nation’s top-rated counseling programs. Sheri sought this education after personally witnessing the power of play therapy with her daughter.
Education and Experience
Sheri received a B.S. in Marketing with a minor in Psychology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1985. She went on to earn her M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2008. The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT) then honed her skills in both private practice and non-profits.
During her practicum experience at the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center in Plano, Texas, Sheri worked with children, adolescents, adults, and non-offending family members who experienced trauma as the result of abuse. She also served as an admissions counselor at Glen Oaks Hospital, which specializes in mental health and chemical dependency care.
Sheri has volunteered for the Five Star Kids Program at the Betty Ford Center, where she worked with children and families of alcoholics and addicts. Sheri led Create by God, a human sexuality workshop for fifth and sixth-grade children through the Methodist Church for seven years. She was also a counselor intern at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Today in addition to her private practice, Sheri is the HEART Program Manager at Community Partners of Dallas. The HEART Program is an internationally-recognized therapeutic group treatment program for children and adolescents who have been sexually abused and non-offending family members.
A strong believer that people have the power to change, Sheri is open minded and empathetically accepts children, adolescents, and adults wherever they are in their life journey. Her training, life experience, natural sensitivity, and faith in the therapeutic process allow her clients to begin to realize positive growth. It is through the therapeutic relationship that you and Sheri will work together to help achieve your goals for positive living and personal growth.
Sheri is originally from Oklahoma, but has lived in Texas more than 25 years and considers the metroplex home. Married with one daughter, six step-children, a son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, and eight step-grandchildren, Sheri stays pretty busy! But when she’s not counseling, you can find Sheri spending time with family, reading, walking, working in the yard, remodeling her historic home, and enjoying her two rescue dogs.
